Building Maintenance and Repair Alaska Works Partnership can help Housing Authorities and other community builders who want to hire a local workforce to build, maintain, repair, and renovate housing and public buildings in rural Alaska. The Building Maintenance Repairer (BMR) Apprenticeship was developed by Alaska Works to train apprentices in a wide range of construction tasks such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical.

 BMRs may also be trained in other areas such as welding, sheet metal work, roofing, masonry,  and the use of heavy equipment. A BMR apprenticeship can lead to a lifetime career with  employment by regional housing authorities, village councils, local governments, school districts  and private sector employers.

STEP-UP

BMR apprentices have a unique opportunity to explore a number of different construction trades.
If, during the first 2000 hours of work, a BMR apprentice decides to specialize in a specific Union-sponsored trade, STEP-UP allows BMR apprentices to apply for and directly enter an apprenticeship in another trade. [Learn More]
